Dr. David Lamb
Dr. David Lamb is a philosopher of science and a bioethicist.
He was Head of the Philosophy Department in Manchester and now is Hon Reader in Bioethics for the University of Birmingham.
David has published 12 books, six edited collections, and over sixty academic papers. For several years he was the editor of the Avebury Series in Philosophy. His contribution to the philosophy of science has focussed on frontier science where he has published widely on bioastronomy and the logic of scientific discovery. He has also combined research in the Philosphy of Science with Ethics and has pioneered work in the medical sciences on organ transplantation and the definition of brainstem death.
David continues his research in the history of philosophy where he has specialized in the ancient Greeks and nineteenth century German philosophy. He was co-founder of the Hegel Society of Great Britain.
His teaching expereince reveals a commitment to applied philosophy, and he has taught and contributed to courses on ehtics to midwives, gynaecologists, surgeons, physicists, social scientists, media professionals, vets, members of the US Navy, Anglican bishops, hospital chaplains, and inmates of maximum security prisons.
He is a member of the Animal Welfare: Science, Ethics and Law Veterinary Association (AWSELVA). In addition, he is a keen owner and trainer of Newfoundland dogs, including working and water trials, dog dancing and competative obedience.
